Using Basic Formulas and Functions in Microsoft Excel

The course 'Using Basic Formulas and Functions in Microsoft Excel' is a 2 hours guided project course taught by Paula Del Ray. It provided a practical application of Excel in analyzing a sample company's sales data. Through guided tutorial videos and a quiz a the end of the course, I learned how to upload a document using Microsoft Office 365, apply arithmetic functions, and analyze business performance using SUM, SUMIF, Averages, and Percentages calculations which like revision for me when it came to finding averages and percentages but SUM and SUMIF was something I had trouble or lacked confidence in before attending this course. After completion of this course, I was able to bring clarity in what I know and enhanced my confidence of my skill sets in Excel.

Using formulas to calculate with basic math function such as addition and subtractions and to perform analysis on item popularity and monthly profits was some of the activities included in the course. These were practical examples I could easily relate to classroom activities involving Trial Balance or Cashbook. It also reinforced content from Class XII, especially Budgeting and Analysis of Financial Statements, where analyzing business performance is a core task. I realized that being able to apply functions like SUMIF to real data would help students understand patterns and make informed decisions while learning MS Excel.
